Collin Takes a Bath

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

We’re another day closer to Collin’s discharge! They have now raised his feeding regiment to 48mL. He is still doing very well but he needs to complete 24 hrs worth of full feedings before they will let him bottle more than every other feeding. So far he has managed to bottle 37mL, 48mL (full feeding) and 42mL since his 2 back-to-back yesterday. So, while we are gaining ground, it looks like I’ll still be here for a little longer – Maybe a week, maybe more.

I miss Lyndsay, Cade, and Meleia very much and hope to spend tomorrow with them all. Traveling back and forth from Des Moines to Ottumwa to work has really made things very difficult for us but we know we’ll get through this eventually.

This morning I gave Collin a bath -it’s always a good time. He gets a little upset in the beginning but as soon as he feels the warm water he loves it! Then towards the end he gets a little fussy, cold and wants it over!

I Did It Mommy!

Yes, Collin has finally accomplished the impossible, he has finished a feeding by bottle! At 3AM today, on his 2 week birthday, Collin managed to finish his first bottle containing 45 mL. And it really was like a light just went on – he was attentive and really went at it like he never has before. Because he has been getting better I was confident he was close, but I had no idea it would be this soon. Hopefully he will continue this behavior! I am so VERY proud of him!

Collin Continues to Eat More

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Collin has continued to show great improvement during feeding. He bottled 40mL for me last night during his 9PM feeding. And this morning he bottled 35mL for me at 9AM. The Dr. has now increased his bottling intake to every other feeding. He still has to tube half of his feedings but he is really gaining ground! I expect he will be home in less than 2 weeks now, hopefully by the end of next week.

I am continuing to travel back and forth to work everyday from Des Moines. It has become quite tiresome and I’m hoping that soon I’ll be able to take a day and get home to see Meleia, Cade and My Lynds! I miss them so very much. This whole mess of one twin going home before the other and not being able to return due to H1N1 and Flu season is really hard on everyone. It would seem that an exception would be made for twins so that mom and Cade could visit Collin.
