Random Significance: The Story of Cade and Collin.

Collin has made it! He now can feed on demand, as much as he wants whenever he wants. He can go as long as 4 hours between feedings and can take 48mL or more. If he feels like 55 or 60mL he can have it. Also, if he wakes up in 2 hours hungry, he can eat early. We’ll be watching for weight gain during the next 24 to 48 hours to see if this works. If it does he’ll be headed home very soon, as early as tomorrow afternoon!

Collin now weighs 5 pounds 9.5 ounces and measures 18 1/2 inches long. He bottled 95% of his formula yesterday and will most likely have his feeding tube removed today! He’s continuing to grow and maintain his good health. He still loves bathtime and now fusses even less when he gets a little chilly at the end. He smiles all the time and seems to stay awake a little more every day. Lately Collin and I have been sitting in the chair together between feedings when he’s awake with his eyes open.

Collin has bottled between 80 and 90% of his feedings since he began to bottle every feeding on Sunday 12-06. He is now on a 24 calorie diet which allows his volume to stay at 48mL without raising and making it more difficult for him to finish each meal. He has gained weight; he now weighs 5 pounds 8.5 ounces! He did have a little trouble with his circumcision healing correctly but his Dr. successfully pulled back the skin again without cutting. There also might be a slight infection in his right eye, we are waiting for culture results. In the meantime they have started him on antibiotic eye drops.

It’s amazing how much Collin has changed over this past few days. He seems more hungry and sucks much more vigorously during feedings. I fed him at 9AM and he managed to finish 48mL in less than 15 minutes!

That’s right. Collin’s the name and he is rockin’ on! Collin has bottled more full feedings than I can even count. They have lifted the bottling ban that only allowed him to bottle every other feeding and he is now able to bottle every feeding. At 9PM tonight he did have a bit of a problem and pulled his feeding tube out. He had to have this put back in and cried quite a bit. This was pretty exhausting and he only managed to bottle about 32 mL of his 48mL regiment. The nurse informed me that this should not set him back as long as it doesn’t continue to happen. She is certain it was only due to the events before his feeding.

We are really looking forward to having Collin home finally. If things continue to go well we might ALL be home for the weekend! Go Collin Go! You can do it!!!
